Bandera Historical Rides

Location(s):
Bandera Historical Rides - 830-328-2203

This family-owned and operated ranch is run by Harrieth Stewart and Tom Lamonica, who bring decades of horsemanship and riding experience from around the world. Harrieth, originally from Finland, has worked across multiple equestrian disciplines and specializes in training, rehabilitation, and equine-assisted learning. Tom, raised in Colorado, spent years cowboying and wrangling at guest ranches across the Southwest, focusing on safe, skill-based riding experiences.

The ranch is also home to Major Hope Corral, a rescue and retraining program built on the belief that every horse deserves a purpose. Guests have the unique opportunity to learn true horsemanship, participate in daily ranch work, and ride outside the typical “nose-to-tail” trail format, in downtown Bandera even! All rides are pre-booked, and visits are by appointment only, as this is a private ranch.

January–February Special: Horsemanship Lessons & Immersive Weekends

January and February are dedicated to horsemanship lessons and classes, offering a focused opportunity to deepen your understanding of horses through western riding and natural horsemanship. Private lessons are available Tuesdays and Fridays, designed for ages 12 and up.

All training begins with understanding the psychology of the horse, emphasizing groundwork, communication, trust, leadership, and safe handling before progressing to arena and trail riding. The goal is safe, confident horsemanship built on reading and anticipating a horse’s behavior.

For a deeper experience, guests may also book an all-inclusive weekend horsemanship retreat. This immersive program includes hands-on groundwork with multiple horses, guided riding, problem-solving techniques, and time on Hill Country trails. This offers a more meaningful connection between horse and rider.

The ranch is located just outside Bandera city limits, providing privacy while remaining close to town. Accommodations are shared cabins, with meals included.
