Start your year outside!
Start the year off on the right foot as you explore the park for the first day of 2027 at your own pace. Choose any of our trails and start your hike. Come by Headquarters for help choosing the best trail for your group.
On your hike, make sure to keep track of how many miles you hiked! When you’re done, come to Headquarters to visit our First Day Hike table to report how many miles you hiked and pick up a free sticker to celebrate (while supplies last)!
Our trails are rocky and rugged, with some steep portions and water crossings. Hike carefully, especially with pets and children! Water and restrooms are available at Headquarters and the day-use parking area. Vault toilets are available along the trail as marked on the trail map, but there is no drinking water along the trails.
When: January 1, while Headquarters is open (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
Where: You can hike any of the trails at the park, then stop by Headquarters to report your mileage and get a sticker.
Bring: Pack all your 10 Essentials that you will need for your hike. Make sure to have plenty of water and snacks for the entire group and any pets. Dress for the weather!
Cost: This program is free with admission to the park. Day passes are $6 per person over 12 years old. Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass.
