Summer Fun

Head to the River or Lake: Folks up north pack a winter survival kit such as blankets, water, food, etc., just in case their car is caught in a winter storm. Here we pack a summer fun kit in the car including towels, river shoes, sun screen, bathing suit, and an ice chest just in case we decide to jump in and cool off at a riverside park or decide on the spur of the moment go tubing or kayaking. And remember to keep the fishing pole handy as well!

Get Star Struck: Sit out under the stars and explore the universe and marvel at nature’s very own light show. There's no man-made light to distract from nature's brilliant light. Lost Maples State Natural Area is designated an official dark sky area. You’ll be amazed at how truly big and bright the stars shine.

You Scream, We Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream: Treat yourself to an old-fashioned ice cream cone, sundae, float, shake or decadent banana split or tryout the Apple Store’s apple ice cream. Don’t forget to top it off with the apple cider sauce for an extra special treat.

Toe-tap or Two-Step: There’s no question that Bandera's music scene is alive and thriving. Whether your style is simply toe-tappin' to ole time cowboy favorites, enjoying songwriters performing original tunes or two-steppin' the night away, you'll find live performances every night of the week at various locations. The weekly calendar posts times and locations.

Giddy-Up Go: Grab your cowboy hat, saddle up your steed, sit tall in the saddle and explore the Hill Country the cowboy way. With just a little imagination you’ll think you have stepped back in time. Don't own your own steed? No problem there are are plenty of outfitters that offer rides for beginner and advanced riders, for one to two hour rides.

Take at a Scenic Drive: Whether it is two-wheeled or four wheeled you’ll be thrilled by the hills and dips and twists and turns along the way and awe struck by the panoramic beauty.

Get Lost in History: Visit one of our area museums. Take a walk with the dinosaurs, dig for dinosaur bones, and see over 100 full body mounts of animals from all regions of the globe displayed in hand-painted dioramas depicting their natural habitat at the Bandera Natural History Museum. Visit the Stalls of Fame depicting Bandera’s rodeo stars, the Texas Heroes Hall of Honor and curiosities from around the world at the Frontier Times Museum. Catch a glimpse of life of by-gone eras at the Town Mountain Miniatures. Track the evolution of motorcycles at the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum.

Whoop and Holler: Cheer on your favorite cowboy and cowgirl at the many summer rodeos. The summer rodeo season kicks off May 31 and runs through July..
